Fuel Conversion Projects

Eastern Utility Company

Boiler Technical Evaluation of converting a 540MWe unit to Orimulsion™ or natural gas fuel source.

Northeastern Utility Company

Boiler Technical and Economic Evaluation of 4 x 500 MWe coal fired units using ‘expert system’ software to evaluate coal conversion potential.

South Central Utility Company

Boiler Technical and Economic Evaluation of 2 x 550 MWe coal fired units using ‘expert system’ software to evaluate coal conversion potential, focusing on subbituminous coal supplies.

Northeastern Utility Company

Boiler Technical and Economic Evaluation of converting 2 x 600 MWe heavy oil fired units to natural gas, and low NOx firing. Scope included complete condition assessment review and transient response analysis.

NOx Reduction

European Utility Company

Boiler Impact Technical Evaluation of retrofitting low NOx burners and Flue Gas Recirculation to 2 x 600 MWe supercritical once-through boilers firing natural gas or liquid biomass.

West Coast Utility Company

Boiler Impact Assessment and Field support of comprehensive NOx reduction program on 9 natural gas fired units ranging in capacity from 150 to 750 MWe employing a range of combustion related NOx abatement strategies.

Western North American Utility

Boiler performance and Tuning of 4 tangentially gas-fired boilers to attain NOx and CO emission reduction.

Southeastern Utility

Participate in technology screening program to meet Clean Air Act Title V NOx requirements on nine pulverized coal fired utility units.

Northeastern Industrial Plant

Developed the solution to abate CO and NOx emission from a biomass fired boiler used in cogeneration service.

Various Industrial Boilers through Participation with Burner Manufacturers

Worked with numerous burner manufacturers on a teaming arrangement to assess the impact of a myriad of NOx reduction technologies including OFA, FGR, IFR, and burner steam and water injection on industrial type boilers.

Boiler Modifications

Northeastern Utility Company

Independently developed and confirmed the proposed boiler modifications by a third party on 2 x 200 MWe coal fired boilers designed to reduce flyash erosion while maintaining boiler performance.

Northeastern Cogeneration Client

Redesigned the superheater in a biomass fired boiler to increase steam temperature level.

South Central Utility Company

Boiler Technical and Economic Evaluation of 2 x 550 MWe coal fired units using ‘expert system’ software to evaluate coal conversion potential, focusing on subbituminous coal supplies.

Northeastern Utility Company

Assess the impact of various major modifications to convection pass heating surface arrangements on boiler performance and operation of design alternatives that were judged to improve boiler reliability and check the accuracy of bidder (boiler OEM) supplied information.

Northeastern Chemical Company

Provided boiler technology engineering support related to the evaluation of reliability and firing capacity issues on two stoker fired units used in cogeneration service to define the potential for chlorine/chloride corrosion.

Eastern Utility Company

Verified the performance predictions and design considerations associated with adding reheater heating surface in this coal fired cyclone type boiler.
